This Level 3 Motor Vehicle Repair course offers an ideal step to the Vocational Competence Qualification, both for those already employed in the motor industry and those who wish to continue their studies.
Accelerate your career in the automotive service industry with this technician-level course. Building on your training at Level 2, this will appeal especially to the aspiring automotive technician.
You'll be 'hands-on' in our workshops, advancing your skills in more complex chassis and engine repair work.
You'll also learn vital workplace Health and Safety practices and have customer service training, preparing you for employment.

Work experience opportunities:
During the year you will have the opportunity to go to different garages and workshops to have an insight of the daily running of a workshop.
English and Maths:
English will be embedded throughout the course so you can understand the terminology required for this level of course you are studying also maths will be embedded to give you a better understanding of items such as gear ratios in gearboxes and the ratio of oil viscosity.
Where can I progress?
Upon completion of this course, you can go on to study a Level 4 Award in Motor Vehicle Engineering or study a foundation degree in a related area.
Alternatively, you can gain employment as a Vehicle Technician or study for a MOT test qualifier.

Tutor - Motor VehicleI have over ten years of experience teaching and delivering Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair courses. I hold a Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training and a TAQA Assessor qualification. I completed my Level 3 Motorsport Maintenance and Repair course whilst working for a private vehicle sales company preparing, repairing and servicing vehicles for the sales team. I then progressed by serving as a Vehicle mechanic for the British Military during the early stages of my teaching career. I have experience delivering Motor Vehicle Level 1, 2 and 3 courses for the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) and The City and Guilds. I enjoy seeing learners progress and develop skills to enter the ever-adapting Automotive industry as a mechanic.

Green Technology Centre ManagerAs a dedicated Site Manager, I oversee the centre's daily operations and support learners in their journey toward achieving their qualifications. My responsibilities include managing four departments: Motor Vehicle, Vehicle Respraying, Bricklaying, and Property Maintenance Operations, offering qualifications ranging from Level 1 to Level 3, as well as apprenticeship programs in these areas. With a background as a fully qualified motor mechanic and vehicle respraying tutor for eight years, I bring hands-on expertise to my role in management.

What can I do with a qualification in Motor Vehicle?
Daily tasks:
- Repairs and services air conditioning, heating and engine-cooling systems.
- Installs additional electrical amenities such as radio/CD players, aerials.
- Checks condition of electrical/electronic systems and carries out servicing tasks.
- Diagnoses faults in electrical/electronic circuitry, removes faulty components and fits replacements.
- Carries out routine maintenance checks on oil and air filters, brakes and other vehicle parts/systems.
- Reassembles, tests, adjusts and tunes the appropriate parts, systems or entire engine.
- Removes, dismantles, repairs and replaces defective parts and prepares new parts using appropriate tools.
- Visually checks, test drives or uses test equipment to diagnose engine and mechanical faults.

- Repairs damage to chassis and engine mountings using hydraulic rams, jacks and jigs.
