If you've ever dreamed of lighting up the stage as a dancer, choreographer, or teacher, then look no further! This course is your ultimate dance launchpad!
You will train in the art of Ballet, Contemporary, Urban, Choreography, Jazz, and Tap to ensure you become a well-rounded dancer. During your studies, you will work alongside our expert staff who still perform professionally within the industry.
We have a reputation for developing outstanding dancers and enhancing our dancers' ability to reach their highest potential through vocational training. After completing this course, you could progress onto onto our highly successful Level 3 Dance course and onto further training at the UK's most prestigious conservatories.
Entry requirements:
- 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English and Maths
Once we have received your application you will be invited to an audition where you will complete classes in Ballet, Contemporary and Jazz. You will also need to perform a short solo which best showcases your talents.
What will I achieve?
Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive a UAL diploma in Performing Arts: Dance.
What will I learn?
This is a one year course where learners will focus on technique developing and refining performance skills. Learners will apply these skills to expand their knowledge and understanding of all dance styles. The skills learnt will enhance and develop them as aspiring performers, whilst preparing for vocational schools and university auditions. Learners will also have the additional option of Musical Theatre/Acting extras available to them.

Work experience opportunities:
There are multiple opportunities to gain work experience within the industry, through performing within our own and other theatres across the midlands and UK.
You will also participate in regular trips to theatres to watch live performances.
You will have the opportunity to participate in a minimum of at least three performances a year. We also run two performance companies, which is via audition.

English and Maths:
Your course will help you build on your English and maths skills in a practical setting. All Ignite students will participate in activities that require these skills throughout their two years of training; through submitting written documentation to support practical assessments and working in industry-grade theatre and production arts workshops.
Where can I progress?
Upon successful completion of this course, you can go onto a Level 3 in Dance Diploma.

Amy Coughlan
Dance LecturerTrained at the Central School of Ballet, I performed with Ballet Theatre UK and Vienna Festival Ballet in productions like Nutcracker, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Swan Lake. After earning my PGCE in Education at Exeter University in 2016, I joined Birmingham Ormiston Academy (BOA) and taught BTEC Level 2, 3, and GCSE qualifications. In 2023, I completed my MA in Dance (Education) at Middlesex University. Alongside my teaching role at BOA, I also serve as a Dance Tutor for MOVEIT. Since January 2024, I've been with Ignite Dance Centre, contributing to Level 2, 3, HNC, and HND qualifications.

What can I do with a qualification in Dance?
Daily tasks:
- Plays pre-recorded music at nightclubs, discotheques, and private functions.
- Conducts interviews and prepares reports for news broadcasts, current affairs programmes and documentaries.
- Introduces and presents radio and television programmes, reads news bulletins and makes announcements.
- Trains animals to perform entertaining routines and may perform with them.
- Performs singing, comedy, acrobatic, illusion and conjuring routines.
- Assumes character created by a playwright or author and communicates this to an audience.
- Studies script, play or book and prepares and rehearses interpretation.
