Our award-winning Hairdressing - Level 3 course is a job-ready, industry-recognised qualification which will qualify you to become a senior hairdresser or stylist.
With an intense focus on advanced haircutting techniques, styling and finishing methods and mastering sophisticated hair colouring and colour correction practices, this course will intensify your already-extensive knowledge and prepare you to take the hair industry by storm.
Covering professional customer service techniques, as well as planning and implementing forward-thinking looks and approaches, this course will take place within our award-winning on-campus salon, Elements, where you will be working on paying members of the public.
During this course, you must complete a work experience placement of at least 37 hours, which will provide you with further experience in the hairdressing industry and prepare you for employment. You'll also be entered into regional and national competitions, including AHT Competitions, NCG and Concept Learner of the Year competitions and WorldSkills.
This qualification will help you develop high-quality industry-standard skills alongside theoretical and practical knowledge, which is reflected by the fact that we have a 100% success rate in employment from all students who complete this course.
Entry requirements
- a Level 2 Hairdressing Diploma or equivalent.
What will I achieve?
Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive a Level 3 VTCT NVQ Hairdressing Diploma.

How am I assessed?
Due to the high standard of this course, the assessments for this qualification will be carried out on real, paying clients in line with commercial service times.
Work experience opportunities
As with our Level 1 and Level 2 Hairdressing qualifications, you must source a work placement of at least 37 hours at a hair salon within the first six weeks of your course. Your work experience hours will be completed in addition to your timetabled hours.
A work placement is essential in the hair industry, allowing you to experience what it's truly like to be 'on the job', to learn from your colleagues and to perfect your skill and confidence.
Work placements and work experience at Kidderminster College are designed so that you can build both your confidence and skills so that you'll be able to work competently within the industry.
English and maths
If you're aged 16-18 and you haven't achieved your GCSE grade 4/C in English and maths, you'll be expected to study English and maths as a mandatory requirement of your programme of study.
Your English skills will be developed by learning new terminology.
Your maths skills will be developed by learning how to mix and measure your colouring products whilst following the manufacturer’s instructions. Similarly, whilst cutting, you'll also evolve your angles and measurements.
Where can I progress?
Upon completion of this course, you can go on to study for a university degree.
Alternatively, you can go on to work in a salon or set up your own small business.

With a strong focus on practical skills, industry relevance, and employability, I aim to prepare students for success in the ever-evolving world of hairdressing. As a Hairdressing Lecturer, I go beyond teaching, supporting learners with critical skills and pastoral care.
