Join our award-winning Hairdressing - Level 2 course! This job-ready qualification will provide you with the industry-focused knowledge, understanding and skills you'll need to work competently offer and up-to-date services in salons.
Throughout this course, you will develop your skills in customer care, advice and consultation, changing the hair colour, cutting hair using basic techniques and styling and finishing hair. You'll also develop your knowledge of different hair types, Health and Safety requirements and how to present yourself within the hairdressing industry.
During your course, you'll need to complete a work experience placement of at least 60 hours, which is designed to provide you with further experience in the hairdressing industry and so prepare you for employment. You'll also have the opportunity to enter local and national competitions such as AHT Competitions, NCG and Concept Learner of the Year competitions and Worldskills.
Entry requirements
Successful applicants for this course will:
- be aged 19 or older before 31 August 2024
OR
- have a Hairdressing - Level 1 Diploma or equivalent
What will I achieve?
Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive a Level 2 VTCT NVQ Hairdressing Diploma, which is highly rated by the National Occupational Standards authority (NOS).

Work experience opportunities
Within six weeks of starting this course, you will need to source your own work placement of at least of 60 hours in a hair salon, to be completed as part of your final qualification. Work experience hours will be completed in addition to your timetabled hours.
A work placement is essential in the hair industry, allowing you to experience what it is truly like to be 'on the job', to learn from your colleagues and to perfect your skill and confidence.
You'll also be working within our award-winning on-campus salon, Elements, practising on colleagues, staff and clients from the local area under the supervision of our experienced staff members.
Work placements and work experience at Kidderminster College are designed so that you can build both your confidence and skills, so that you will be able to work competently in industry.
You'll also get opportunities to enter local and national competitions and show off your skills in a wider industrial setting.
English and maths
If you're aged 16-18 and haven't achieved your GCSE grade 4/C or higher in English and maths, you'll be expected to study English and maths as a mandatory requirement for your programme of study.
Your English skills will be developed by learning new terminology.
Your maths skills will be developed by learning how to mix and measure your colouring products whilst following the manufacturer’s instructions. Similarly, whilst cutting, you'll evolve your angles and measurements.
