Bricklaying is a sought-after trade around the world. From constructing traditional structures to building modern architectural wonders, bricklaying is an essential and respected trade that offers a world of opportunities.
If you choose our level 3 course in bricklaying, you will learn various skills needed to build, repair and maintain the country's housing stock.
Our qualification is aimed at people wishing to enhance the skills they have already learnt in Level 2 bricklaying, to progress on to becoming skilled in their chosen trade, and to work towards becoming a master craftsman.
Entry requirements:
- Level 2 Brickwork Diploma or equivalent
What will I achieve?
Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive a Level 3 City & Guilds Diploma in Brickwork.
What will I learn?
Repair and maintain masonry structures
Constructing radial and battered brickwork
Carrying out decorative and reinforced brickwork
Constructing fireplaces and chimneys

Work experience opportunities:
Throughout the year we will be visiting different buildings of interest, including the brick factory to see how bricks are made. There will also be guest speakers coming in to talk to you about the industry.
English and Maths:
English will be embedded throughout the year to enable you to have a better understanding of the terminology used for this level of course.
Maths will be embedded for example to help you price the materials required to build the house and how many squared meters of concrete you will need for the footing.
Where can I progress?
Upon successful completion of this course, you could go into employment including an apprenticeship, or become a Construction worker, Site Supervisor, Foreman, and Construction Manager.
You can also be a Self-Employed Business Owner or a Sub-Contractor.

Green Technology Centre ManagerAs a dedicated Site Manager, I oversee the centre's daily operations and support learners in their journey toward achieving their qualifications. My responsibilities include managing four departments: Motor Vehicle, Vehicle Respraying, Bricklaying, and Property Maintenance Operations, offering qualifications ranging from Level 1 to Level 3, as well as apprenticeship programs in these areas. With a background as a fully qualified motor mechanic and vehicle respraying tutor for eight years, I bring hands-on expertise to my role in management.

What can I do with a qualification in Brickwork?
Daily tasks:
- Visits and advises clients on the use and servicing of electrical and electronic systems and equipment.
- Diagnoses and detects faults and implements procedures to maintain efficient operation of systems and equipment.
- Plans installation methods, checks completed installation for safety and controls or undertakes the initial running of the new electrical or electronic equipment or system.
- Sets up equipment, undertakes tests, takes readings, performs calculations and records and interprets data.
- Plans and prepares work and test schedules based on specifications and drawings.

Daily tasks:
- Levels, aligns and embeds stone in mortar and faces brick, concrete or steel frame with stone to make and repair structures.
- Uses hand and power tools to shape, trim, carve, cut letters in and polish stone.
- Spreads mortar on foundations and bricks, and places, levels and aligns bricks in mortar bed.
- Marks and cuts stone using hammers, mallet and hand or pneumatic chisels.
- Examines drawings, photographs and specifications to determine job requirements.
