Our Level 2 Brickwork Diploma builds on what you learnt in the Level 1 course, equipping you with more advanced, complex techniques and theoretical know-how.
From interpreting working drawings to utilising brickwork and blockwork with steel lintels, the second tier of this practical course is designed to extensively develop both your knowledge and confidence regarding the skill set needed for your future career.
Working on-site at our fully kitted out Vocational Skills Centre workshops, you will gain a wealth of hands-on experience with the help of our industry-specialised tutors.
Entry requirements:
- Level 1 Brickwork Diploma or equivalent
What will I achieve?
Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive a Level 2 City & Guilds Diploma in Brickwork.
What will I learn?

- Building solid walling, isolated and attached piers
- Interpreting working drawings to set out masonry structures

The study programme is 13 hours a week and includes a 60-hour mandatory work placement.
You will be based at the Construction and Automotive Centre. Classes generally run between 9am-5pm but may vary.

Work experience opportunities:
Throughout the year we will be visiting different buildings of interest, including the brick factory to see how bricks are made. There will also be guest speakers coming in to talk to you about the industry.
English and Maths:
English will be embedded throughout the year to enable you to have a better understanding of the terminology used.
Maths will be embedded for example to help you price the materials required for a dimension of a wall.
Where can I progress?
Upon successful completion of this course, you could progress onto our Level 3 Brickwork Diploma.

Green Technology Centre ManagerAs a dedicated Site Manager, I oversee the centre's daily operations and support learners in their journey toward achieving their qualifications. My responsibilities include managing four departments: Motor Vehicle, Vehicle Respraying, Bricklaying, and Property Maintenance Operations, offering qualifications ranging from Level 1 to Level 3, as well as apprenticeship programs in these areas. With a background as a fully qualified motor mechanic and vehicle respraying tutor for eight years, I bring hands-on expertise to my role in management.

What can I do with a qualification in Brickwork?
Daily tasks:
- Visits and advises clients on the use and servicing of electrical and electronic systems and equipment.
- Diagnoses and detects faults and implements procedures to maintain efficient operation of systems and equipment.
- Plans installation methods, checks completed installation for safety and controls or undertakes the initial running of the new electrical or electronic equipment or system.
- Sets up equipment, undertakes tests, takes readings, performs calculations and records and interprets data.
- Plans and prepares work and test schedules based on specifications and drawings.

Daily tasks:
- Levels, aligns and embeds stone in mortar and faces brick, concrete or steel frame with stone to make and repair structures.
- Uses hand and power tools to shape, trim, carve, cut letters in and polish stone.
- Spreads mortar on foundations and bricks, and places, levels and aligns bricks in mortar bed.
- Marks and cuts stone using hammers, mallet and hand or pneumatic chisels.
- Examines drawings, photographs and specifications to determine job requirements.

- Checks accuracy of work with square, rule and spirit level.
- Aligns and fixes prepared wood pieces by screwing, nailing, gluing and dowelling to form frames, shop fronts, counter units, decking, theatrical sets, furniture, small wooden craft, scale models and wooden templates.
- Selects and measures appropriate wood and cuts, shapes and drills to specification using saws, planes, chisels and other power or hand tools.
- Examines drawings and specifications to determine job requirements.

- Prepares surfaces by cleaning, sanding and filling cracks and holes with appropriate filler.
- Erects working platform or scaffolding up to five metres in height.
